Cyril Ramaphosa
Mr. Ramaphosa is Executive Chairman of the Shanduka Group and serves on the Commonwealth Business Council and the International Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS.
A trained lawyer, he was elected the first General Secretary of the National Union of Mineworkers and, from 1991, was General Secretary of the ANC. He led the movement's delegation in the negotiations with the apartheid government for a new order in South Africa. Mr. Ramaphosa was elected a Member of Parliament in 1994, and became Chairman of the Constitutional Assembly.
In 1997, he moved into the private sector, but continues to serve on the ANC’s National Executive. He serves as Director for several prominent companies, and has received numerous national and international awards. He spent 18 months in jail for opposing apartheid while at university.
